About This Role
A Research Fellow position for the School of Materials Science and Engineering at NTU, funded by Singapore Food Agency (SFA) under the Singapore Food Story R&D Programme 2.0, focuses on developing sustainable growing media for urban farming using porous materials like aerogels and hydrogels.
Responsibilities
- Conduct literature reviews and generate periodic updates
- Synthesize, functionalize, and characterize porous materials using advanced techniques such as SEM, XRD, DLS, FTIR, TGA/DSC, and ICP-MS
- Carry out assays to understand nutrient release kinetics of the platform and correlate material properties with plant growth performance
- Develop scale-up strategies for large-scale trials and industrial production, collaborating with local farms and industry partners
- Supervise junior research staff, undergraduate, and graduate student projects
Requirements
- PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Biomaterials
- Experience in biomaterials, recycling of biomass, functionalization, and characterization (e.g., SEM, XRD, DLS, FTIR, TGA/DSC, ICP-MS)
- Strong track record of research ability and demonstrated contribution to research (e.g., publications, grants)
- Experience in agriculture research or hydrogels/aerogels
- Good communication and writing skills
