About This Role
Lead R&D in advanced laser surface texturing, micromachining, and material characterisation for industrial applications at ARTC.
Responsibilities
- Lead laser processing research including texturing, blasting, and micromachining.
- Design experimental trials to optimise process parameters for wear resistance, hardness, and roughness.
- Design optical setups to perform beam shaping for sub-micron texturing and large-area processing.
- Conduct materials characterisation using microscopy, SEM, and wear hardness testing.
- Troubleshoot process stability to ensure reproducibility and scalability of the technology.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for technology transfer to industrial partners.
Requirements
- PhD degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Surface Engineering.
- Experience with laser processing technologies such as texturing and micromachining.
- Solid understanding of laser-matter interactions including ablation threshold, thermal effects, and surface energy.
- Experience with material characterisation tools including microscopy and wear testing.
- Ability to design experiments, optimise parameters, and analyse data for actionable conclusions.
- Experience in scale-up or pilot implementations of laser-based processes (desirable).
- Knowledge of post-process treatments like surface passivation and coating overlay.
