About This Role
Seeking a PhD candidate in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science to develop computational models and degradation analysis for polymeric sealing systems using finite element methods.
Responsibilities
- Develop and validate degradation models for viscoelastic relaxation, thermal aging, and thermal cycling.
- Create finite element (FE) models of mechanically energized sealing systems to evaluate performance under thermal and mechanical loads.
- Automate parametric studies using Python scripting for sensitivity analysis of material and geometric factors.
- Integrate degradation models with traditional reliability metrics to predict performance risks over time.
- Collaborate with experimental teams and industry partners to refine test procedures and assess lifecycle failure risks.
- Conduct statistical FE analysis to identify critical factors affecting seal reliability.
Requirements
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or Applied Physics.
- Solid background in continuum mechanics and finite element modeling (Abaqus, Python).
- Experience with polymer material behavior and aging tests.
- Proficiency in scientific programming languages (Python, Fortran).
- Knowledge of reliability engineering methodologies.
- Strong communication skills for multidisciplinary collaboration.
