Job Summary

The Education team is responsible for developing and implementing an ambitious programme of educational activities, events and interactive opportunities for a wide range of audiences. Educational activities currently include:  

  • School education programmes; providing guided tours, printed resources for students and educators, and workshops
  • An engagement programme for educators, offering events and educational activities for teachers
  • Guided tours, creative workshops and demonstrations for general visitors
  • Outreach events (e.g. Singapore Science Festival, ECSITE, ASPAC, schools outreach etc.)
  • School holiday events, other events planned to celebrate key dates and anniversaries, for instance Teachers’ Day and/or public holiday programming.
  • In-gallery education activities and displays

The Education Specialist postholder forms part of the operational backbone for the Education team – most often, the first point of contact and interface with group visitors. Occasionally, this position will require the postholder to work some evenings, weekends and Public Holidays for special events and programmes.

• Support the museum with daily operations including welcoming school, and corporate groups and public visitors.
• Perform shift responsibilities, including weekends and public holidays and is accountable to the Assistant Manager/Manager for the smooth running of the day-to-day shift operations.
• Work closely with the Programmes Team on delivering educational offers such as tours, workshops, online programmes and events to schools and the public.
• Engage with the Museum’s visitors in a positive and professional manner, inspire and inform visitors of exhibitions and galleries within the Museum.
• Always provide excellent customer service to school groups and public visitors.
• Project a professional impression of the Museum always both verbally and in appearance.
• Be fully knowledgeable on all Standard Operating Procedures & all exhibitions relevant to the Museum.
• Liaise with the Assistant Manager/Manager on daily and weekly roster patterns. (Weekends & Public Holidays will be included)
• Assist with administrative processes, but not limited to updating websites, attending to enquiries, and group bookings.

• Take stock of all inventories needed to run and execute our educational programmes.
• Take on any other duties within the Museum, as the business requires.

Job Responsibilities

Education & Certification

  • Minimum Diploma in Tourism/Hospitality/Arts Management/Art Education or related field preferred

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year working experience in education and/or public engagement in the arts, culture or science industries

Other Prerequisites

  • Pro-active and self-motivated
  • A team player with good interpersonal skills
  • Able to multitask efficiently, manage and organise workload with a focus on positive outcomes and solutions
  • The ability to demonstrate a passion for learning and communicating the arts and sciences
  • Enjoy working with children and people of all ages
  • An awareness of current practices in museum-based education and/or education more broadly
  • Motivated and energetic, with the experience of having worked in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Able to use good judgment and discretion toand maintain a calm demeanor in high volume or stressful situations
  • Strong written and spoken English and a confident public speaker
  • Experience of presenting information to individuals or groups in a public/educational context
