About the role

Research Engineer supporting experimental research on material performance under extreme environments, focusing on hydrogen-related mechanical testing and characterization.

ResearchOnsite

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct hydrogen-related mechanical tests, including tensile, fatigue, fracture, and other environmentally assisted cracking experiments under ambient air, electrochemical charging, and hydrogen autoclave conditions.
  • Support operation, test preparation, and experimental execution for high-pressure H2 autoclave mechanical testing systems, including compliance with SOPs and safety requirements.
  • Carry out other mechanical characterization and analysis relevant to advanced metallic materials.
  • Analyse experimental data, prepare plots/tables/reports, and support interpretation of mechanical and hydrogen testing results.
  • Maintain proper experimental documentation, including test records, risk assessments, SOPs, and project reports.
  • Assist in project management and laboratory administration, including scheduling, progress tracking, inventory management, maintenance coordination, and support for project management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field.
  • Candidates with demonstrated hands-on experience in tensile/fatigue/fracture testing, hydrogen charging, stress-corrosion cracking (SCC), and/or materials characterization will be preferred.
  • Experience in microstructural/materials characterization techniques such as SEM, EBSD, XRD, DSC, or TGA is advantageous.
  • Ability to execute experiments independently, troubleshoot practical test issues, and maintain high-quality documentation.
  • Good understanding of laboratory safety practices; experience handling electrochemical systems, corrosive environments, gases, or pressure-related systems is advantageous.
  • Good organisational and coordination skills to support procurement, equipment maintenance, inventory control, and project tracking.
