About the role
The Assistant Engineer (PWY) supervises contractors for railway renewal works, ensuring safety and quality. Responsibilities include acting as Possession Master, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with safety procedures. The role requires shift work and strong leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities
- Require to work day or night shift including weekends as assigned based on roster planned one month in advance, subjected to last minute changes.
- Perform the duties of Possession Master (PM) and Person-In-Charge (PIC).
- Must have clear and good vision of a minimum of 250 meters to check the sighting distances and train timings and not colour blind.
- Must have good hearing for hazard identification and to maintain communication on-site and via portable radio in a working environment with back ground noise.
- Identify and distinguish various types of signage on track.
- Carry out risk assessment based on site conditions to ensure safety of the working group.
- Book in at the respective depot or station for access to tracks.
- Make sure that track safety protection (arrangement of possession limit, implementation of traction power arrangements, testing of traction power, installation of SCDs/SCCs/RRBCs and securing of points) are in place before commencing work.
- Know the scope of work to be performed.
- Be clear about traction power arrangements and limits so as to ensure that all staff are protected from trains and traction power.
Requirements
- NITEC / Higher NITEC / Diploma
- Required to undergo training at SMRT Institute.
- Able to lead, manage and guide large work groups.
- Able to work independently, communicate effectively and good team player.
