About the role
The Assistant Engineer leads a team of Technical Officers in performing preventive and corrective maintenance on trains and equipment. Responsibilities include planning work, ensuring safety, and using SAP/Maximo for recording. Requires a polytechnic diploma in engineering and 1-3 years of experience.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan and supervise work carried out by the team members.
- Assist Engineering Maintenance Manager (EMM) in meeting the key performance indicators set by Division.
- Assist EMM in planning of work duties.
- Disseminate instructions and procedures issued by supervisors to team members.
- Assist supervisors in conducting engineering analysis and investigations on incidents/accidents.
- Assist EMM / Engineer in the preparation of Quality Procedures / Risk Assessment / Work Instructions / Work Records.
- Raise corrective maintenance job orders and review upon completion when required.
- Record all faults reported, complete work orders and key in other input into SAP/Maximo and any other recording system.
- Able to participate and complete the technical Skills training provided by SMRT and achieve the necessary qualification to perform maintenance work on SMRT Component Service Centre.
- Be sufficiently competent to carry out preventive and corrective maintenance tasks on SMRT Component Service Centre, as assigned by supervisors.
Requirements
- Polytechnic diploma in Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronics Technology / Engineering or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Preferably 1 to 3 years relevant experience in maintenance and troubleshooting of electro-mechanical equipment.
- Possession of welder/machinist qualification will be added value.
- Able to lead and supervise a team.
- Must be self-motivated, resourceful, organized, independent and possess strong interpersonal & communication skills.
- Able to communicate effectively and good team player.
- Able to read simple electrical circuitry and engineering drawing.
- Able to work independently.
- Able to work effectively under pressure.
- Able to work in fast paced environment with changing priorities.
- Able to work rotational shift.
- Not be sensitive or allergic to Component Service Centre Materials, POLs (Petrol, Oils and Lubricants) and dust involved in the conduct of the work.
- Able to work at height (WAH) on the train roof, while donning the necessary WAH safety equipment.
- Fit and able to climb staircases and ladders, stand for sufficient duration (4 hours) to accomplish the required maintenance works.
