Purpose & Scope:
The Assistant/Manager, Electricity Trading supports the Trading Lead in the day‑to‑day execution, optimisation, and risk management of Sembcorp’s Singapore electricity trading portfolio.
The role takes on responsibilities spanning market execution and optimisation, detailed market and portfolio analysis, operational and regulatory oversight, and selective leadership of initiatives and junior traders.
The incumbent is expected to exercise independent trading judgement, contribute to strategy refinement, and ensure trading activities remain commercially competitive, compliant, and operationally robust.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
1.Trading Execution & Portfolio Optimisation
Execute and optimise electricity market bids and offers in Singapore’s wholesale electricity market (NEMS), in alignment with desk strategy and risk limits.
Support the Trading Lead in managing generation, contract, and retail exposure, ensuring portfolio positions are efficiently structured across time horizons.
Monitor intraday and forward positions, identify optimisation opportunities, and take timely corrective actions where required.
2. Market Analysis & Commercial Insight
Conduct detailed analysis of demand‑supply fundamentals, fuel and emissions linkages, reserve and ancillary service markets, and regulatory or system‑driven market shifts.
Translate market intelligence into actionable trading or hedging recommendations.
Support development and refinement of bid strategies, pricing logic, and scenario analysis.
3. Risk Management & Governance
Ensure all trading activities comply with internal risk management policies, delegated authority limits, and market rules and regulatory requirements.
Work closely with the Trading Lead on monitoring risk exposures, validating stress scenarios, and escalating material risks or breaches promptly.
4. Operational Oversight & Market Interfaces
Oversee daily trading‑related operational activities, including bid submission validation, settlement view, position and P&L reconciliation.
Coordinate with internal operations, risk, and finance teams to resolve discrepancies and ensure data integrity.
Liaise with external parties such as the market operator, counterparties, and regulators on operational or market matters.
5. Initiative Ownership & Team Support
Take ownership of specific trading initiatives or improvement projects, such as trading process enhancements, analytical tool development, system or data quality improvements.
Provide guidance and on‑the‑job support to junior traders or analysts, fostering best practices and disciplined execution.
Qualifications & Experience:
Degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
Min 4–8 years in electricity trading, market operations, or portfolio optimisation.
Direct exposure to the Singapore electricity market (or comparable liberalised markets) is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to operate with commercial accountability, sound judgment, and attention to operational detail.
