Environmental Engineer role within AWS Infrastructure Services focused on ensuring environmental compliance for AWS data centers and facilities across Australia. Responsibilities include regulatory assessments, permitting, EMS maintenance, audits, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities
- Assess and support compliance with national and local environmental regulations, contractual obligations, and internal Amazon policies
- Support the growth of the business through environmental due diligence reviews and permitting support
- Play a key role in regional environmental programs by integrating with engineering, construction, and operations - drive an environmentally responsible culture within the organization
- Support the maintenance of and compliance with implemented Environmental Management Systems (EMS)
- Ensure work performed by contractors, consultants, and employees is completed in accordance with Amazon standards
- Develop, analyze, and forecast environmental metrics, horizon scan for risk and effectively communicate insights to internal stakeholders
- Support environmental audits to drive continuous improvement
- Build collaborative relationships with various stakeholders to ensure risks are identified early and managed appropriately
- Submit time critical environmental reports to various governmental agencies
- Complete thorough environmental investigations and associated regulatory reports, including working with operations and necessary stakeholders to develop and implement appropriate corrective and preventive actions
Requirements
- Experience developing and implementing environmental compliance programs including regulated waste, water, and air regulations in accordance with applicable laws
- Experience with computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Experience in environmental compliance and permitting, waste management, contractual, regulatory, and liability assessments, environmental permit evaluations and applications, EIAs and water discharge requirements
- Bachelor's degree in safety, environmental, or equivalent
- 4+ years of experience serving as an environmental technical resource, environmental consultant, environmental manager, program specialist, or program manager
- Experience in handling internal & external audits
- Experience in written and oral communication, including the ability to communicate with all levels in the organization (technical, business, executive)
- Experience demonstrating strong analytical abilities and confidence in the use of data
